Tax statements to be mailed soon
About 25,000 tax statements will be mailed in the next week or so, as local property owners find out what they will owe in taxes for this year.
RUTH CALDWELL
Ruth McEntire Caldwell, better known as “Tootles” or “Toots,” a nickname given to her by her father, died Oct. 19, 2024 at her home in Abilene. She was 87. Owner of the U Ranch in Sterling City, which dates back to 1880, Ruth was the historian and keeper of its legacy.

Fandangle officers elected

Band gets I’s from all 5 judges
The Albany Ragin’ Red Band brought home a Division I rating from the Seymour Marching Contest last Saturday, earning the top rating from all five judges. The group will compete next at the UIL Marching Contest that is set for Monday, Oct.
Red Ribbon Week to start Oct. 28
Red Ribbon Week is on the horizon at both AISD campuses and will include contests, prizes, and dressup days. Red Ribbon Week has been observed locally for 36 years and will run Oct.
