Cast, crowd weather elements for Fandangle Sampler

The Fort Griffin Fandangle Sampler was held this past Saturday at Collins Creek Ranch, where cast and crew braved brisk temperatures and approaching rain to perform a partial preview of the upcoming 87th anniversary show.

Fandangle creative director Lorna Ayers remained committed to hosting the Sampler at Collins Creek, located on the original site of Fort Griffin. Despite the forecast, a decent crowd gathered along Griffin Avenue to enjoy the outdoor performance, which was able to proceed through much of the program before the weather forced an early close.

The rain began to fall midway through the show, prompting organizers to call it off. But not before the cast joined in singing “Prairie Land” in the rain—an impromptu moment that capped off the evening’s performance. Guests then moved into the cook shack, where a steak dinner catered by The Ice House was served.

“I was very proud of how the Sampler weekend went,” said Ayers. “Even with the potential for rain, we had a 100 percent consensus from the cast and crew to commit to holding the Sampler at Collins Creek. We were actually very blessed that the rain held off long enough to allow us to perform most of the show. I am very proud of all of the cast and crew for persevering through diverse weather with such passion.”

Regular Fandangle rehearsals are set to begin in mid-May as preparations get underway for the 87th anniversary of the Fort Griffin Fandangle this June.
