By David H. Waller
Albany resident JD Coffee has been recognized as Project Manager of the Year (General Contractor) at the 2024 Build West Texas Awards, hosted by the West Texas Chapter of the Associated General Contractors (AGC).
Coffee, who works for Teinert Construction, was honored for his leadership and contributions to construction projects across the Abilene and Big Country region. The award recognizes individuals who demonstrate exceptional project oversight, problem-solving skills, and a commitment to quality in the construction industry.
A 2014 graduate of Eastland High School, Coffee earned a civil engineering degree from Texas Tech University in 2018 before joining Teinert Construction in 2020. He has since played a key role in managing large-scale projects, ensuring they are completed on time and within budget while maintaining high safety and quality standards. In 2023, Coffee and his family relocated to Albany, where he continues to oversee projects across the region.
Coffee is married to Albany native Shelby Barton Coffee, and the couple has two young sons, Whitt and Webb.
The West Texas AGC Chapter, founded in 1952, represents contractors across a 75,000-square-mile region, covering 69 counties from Lubbock to the Permian Basin and Abilene. The organization supports general contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, and service professionals in maintaining industry excellence through education, advocacy, and professional development.
In addition to recognizing outstanding individuals, the Build West Texas Awards highlight top construction projects completed by AGC members. This year, Teinert Construction received Platinum and Silver Awards for its work on the Summit Center and All Kinds Animal Shelter (PARC), further cementing its reputation in the industry.
