Docents make trip to Fredericksburg
By Kathy Thomson
Docents at the Old Jail Art Center went on an overnight trip to Fredericksburg earlier this week, and the group is planning a trip to New Orleans next spring, according to Susan Waller, member of the OJAC travel committee.
“We wanted to go on a one-night trip,” said Waller. “We decided to go to Fredericksburg because everybody loves Fredericksburg; it has such fabulous museums, restaurants, and shopping.”
The recent adventure included 17 docents and guests.
The main body of the group left the OJAC at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday morning, Sept. 24 by private automobile. They met up with the rest of their group for an early lunch at the Hilltop Café in Cherry Springs.
After the meal, the docents had a special stop scheduled.
“Diane Owen has contributed to the OJAC’s expansion, and she gave us a tour of her private collection of art, which is in a home near Fredericksburg,” said docent Michael Glover.
The group checked into the Peach Tree Inn in Fredericksburg mid-afternoon.
“Free time was allotted to tour other museums and see the town on Tuesday, before dining at the Navajo Grill that evening,” said OJAC development and membership coordinator Susan Montgomery.
The docents met up again at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday morning, Sept. 25 to visit the National Pacific Museum.
The group returned to Albany late Wednesday afternoon.
