Albany moves into playoffs in 2nd place

The Lady Lion volleyball team closed out the regular season with a couple of district wins over the last week and are now preparing for the playoffs with a practice game next Tuesday.
Albany finished the district race with a 10-2 record for second place, with their only losses coming against Hawley, the District 6-2A champs.
The Lady Lions will be on the road next Tuesday for a practice game against Klondike. The two playoff-bound teams will play in the gym at Loraine ISD. The bout will start at 5:00 p.m.
Albany has a bye in the first round of the playoffs, but will face Miles on Saturday, Nov. 9. The time and location had not been decided at press time.
Hawley and Albany are the only two district teams to advance into the Class 2A bracket of the playoffs, with Moran, Woodson, Newcastle, Woodson, and Ranger moving into the Class 1A bracket.
The Lady Lions (20-12) hosted Ranger in the regular season finale on Tuesday, earning a 25-18, 25-13, 25-17 win. Details of the game will be reported next week.
Albany also won games over Moran and Woodson last week.

Albany beat the Lady Bulldogs 25-14, 25-9, 25-27, 25-3 on Oct. 22.
“We had some really good starts in each set and were able to speed up our offense,” head coach M.J. Reneau said. “I was proud of the focus the girls showed throughout the game.”
The Lady Lions went to Woodson on Friday afternoon, earning a win 25-12, 25-13, 25-18.
“This was our second great match of the week,” the coach said. “The girls looked really good on the court, with our hitters connecting well with our setter for a total of 31 kills.”
The coach added that the team has been working on strategies that will help them in the playoffs.

The JV teams finished their seasons early since the final three schools on the schedule do not have JV squads.
