Rodney Dale Barton, passed away peacefully at his home in Albany, TX on November 7, 2024, surrounded by his loving wife.

Rodney was born in Elk City,OklahomaonNovember 7, 1946 and lived many places throughout his life. He and his parents lived in Amarillo, California, back to Amarillo beforesettling down in Carlsbad, NM. RodneyattendedCarlsbad Schools and graduated from CHS in 1966. After High School he joined the United States Army during the Vietnam Crisis and was stationed in Germany as a Military Police Officer.

When he returned home, Rodney moved to Maryland to start a new career in the newspaper field. He worked in the newspaper field for approximately 25 years. During that time, he had the opportunity to work for the Washington Post and the Austin Statesman. While in Maryland, he loved the outdoorsandwouldgodeer hunting both with bow and rifle and enjoyed rock climbing and was active in Duckpin Bowling leagues andsoftball leagues. Rodney also discovered his love for golf. He soon became an accomplished golfer (and on those bad days you would know about it). He could spot a course miles away. Two of his favorite courses were Wood Creek Golf Club in Wimberly and Albany Golf Club in Albany. He met many lifelong friends at these clubs.

In 1992, while on vacation in his hometown, he met Lisa. They married a year later and made their home together in Port Republic, Maryland until 1999, when they decided to move to Texas to be closer to family. They lived in several wonderful places, including Austin, Wimberly and finally settling in Albany.

Rodneywasprecededin death by his parents, Wesley and Juanita Barton; stepbrother, Edward Barton; mother-in-law,Archie Jean Buchanan; and numerous aunts and uncles.

Rodney is survived by his wife Lisa of 31 years; stepsons,Christopher Allen and wife Crystal of Manvel TX; Sean Allen and wife Stephanie of Los Angeles, CA; granddaughter, Caylei Allen Taylor and wife Falyn, of Austin, TX; grandson, Carter Allen of Manvel, TX; sisterin- law, Claudia Elkin Ryan of Lumberton, TX; nieces, Jennifer Stewart of Stephenville, TX;Stacy NashandhusbandJeremy of Lumberton, TX; and numerous great nieces and nephews along with several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Celebration of Life service will be held in Albany, TXonWednesday,November 27, 2024, at 11:00am at the Albany Golf Course. As per his request, cremation was entrusted to Girdner Funeral Home of Abilene, TX.

Honorary pallbearers include Charles Barrett, Don Hammons, Ronnie Kitchens, Jessie Vega, Ronnie Anderson, Donnie Anderson, Randy Walker, Bob Tidwell, and Austin Sherwood.
