19th annual car show returns Saturday
The 19th annual Albany Classic Car Show is set for Saturday, May 9, with organizers preparing for a full day of classic vehicles, vendors and community activities. Volunteer coordinator Robert Snyder said interest remains strong, with participants expected from Albany and surrounding areas.
“We’ve had a good response, and things are lining up well for the show,” Snyder said. “As of today, there is no rain in the forecast for Saturday, so if that holds, we’re looking forward to a good turnout.”
The weekend begins Friday, May 8, with the “Burger Burn” fundraiser at Clear Fork Bank Park from 6 to 8 p.m. The hamburger supper benefits both the car show and the local car museum, with a $10 minimum order and additional donations encouraged. Snyder said the fundraiser continues to be an important support event for downtown and museum efforts.
The usual “Burnout” event is planned Friday evening around 6:30 p.m., continuing a popular tradition tied to the weekend.
And while there is no formal cruise night scheduled, Snyder encourages participants to drive their classic vehicles around town as part of the festivities.
Saturday’s car show begins with registration from 8 to 11 a.m. Entry is $20 per vehicle, and more than 25 judging categories are planned, including Best of Show and People’s Choice awards in both car and truck divisions.
Vehicles will be staged along South First Street near Bank Park, with overflow space available nearby if needed. The show will feature antiques, hot rods, customs, trucks and other specialty vehicles.
Local food trucks are expected, and Eagle Auto will again provide door prizes and goodie bags for participants throughout the day. Awards and trophies are sponsored by Clear Fork Bank, with presentations expected somewhere around 2:30-3:30 p.m.
