Bill Cauble

William “Bill” Cauble, age 86 of Albany, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Friday, Aug. 9, 2024. Funeral services will be held Thursday, Aug. 15 at Bethel Assembly at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Luke Spraberry officiating. Interment will follow in the Albany Cemetery under the direction of Morehart Mortuary.

William Butler Cauble was born March 19, 1938 in Albany, Texas to Jay SpiveyCaubleandFrancis Elizabeth Bizzell Cauble. He grew up in Albany and graduated from Albany High School.

On Dec. 21, 1977, he married Doris Walker in South Pittsburg, Tennessee. Over a span of many years, Bill worked in the oil field and on drilling rigs for various drilling companies in Texas, New Mexico, Tennessee, and Kentucky. Bill and Doris returned to Albany where he worked on theMatthews-Lambshead Ranch for 37 years before his retirement.

Bill was a published co-author of Barbecue, Biscuits, and Beans cookbook, a book representing the years and love of chuckwagon cooking. Bill spent many years competing in chuckwagon cooking events, including chuckwagon authenticity competitions, where he won numerous awards.

After years of competing, Bill served on numerous boards and judged these events. He made his way onto television a few times on The Red Steagall Cowboy Gathering Show and on Fox and Friends with wagon in tow, where he showed how chuckwagon cooking was done.

Bill was a member of the Cowboy Hall of Fame, past President of the Ft. Griffin Fandangle Association, a member of the National Chuckwagon Gathering Association in Oklahoma City, President of the Ranching Heritage Association in Lubbock Texasexecutivecommittee andtheNationalRanching Heritage Center board of overseers from 1997-2000.

In addition to the many places Bill served, he and Clifford Teinert coauthored the Barbecue, Biscuits, and Beans cookbook. (Watt Casey had the honor and privilege of photographing what Bill and Clifford created plus enjoying the results along with anyone who happened to be in the cookshack). Barbecue, Biscuits and Beans, published by Albany’s Bright Sky Press in 2002, represents years of Bill’s love of chuckwagon cooking.

Billwasalsoarenowned artist, depicting the life he knew with not only western art, but oil rigs, and landscapes. His talent includedbronzesculptures as well. His artwork can be found hanging on the walls of many homes and businesses across the country.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jay and Francis Elizabeth Cauble; two brothers, Larry Cauble and Robert Cauble.

Bill is survived by his wife of 46 years, Doris Cauble of Albany; his four children,CynthiaRossand husbandEdwardSniderof Burnet, Catherine Knight andhusbandDwaineofAlbany, Greg Steele and wife Rebecca of Houma, Louisiana, Cheryl Pounds and husband Chris of Burnet; one brother, James Cauble andwifeErnestineofKaty; nine grandchildren, Jennifer, Jason, Jordan, Jaclyn, Justine, Jacob, Brittany, Michael, Mark; and fifteen great grandchildren.
