Only one new COVID-19 case was reported last week, as the number of local cases continues to remain low based on information provided by Albany’s two health clinics.
The weekly report by county judge Bob Skelton issued Tuesday reported one positive test result out of nine tests administered at the two local clinics for the period of Oct. 31 through Nov. 4.
There were four positive cases out of 12 tests for the week of Oct. 17-21.

Early voting for the Nov. 8 General Election that includes county, state, and federal races ends Friday at the Shackelford County Courthouse.
In-person early voting will continue from 8:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. both Thursday (today) and Friday, Nov. 4.
As of noon on Tuesday, 382 registered voters had cast their ballots early, with 74 of the 94 mail ballots also returned.

Only a few tickets remained as of Tuesday for a concert by the Austin-based band “Reckless Kelly” at the Aztec Theater on Saturday, Nov. 5.
Doors for the show will open at 7:00 p.m., with the performance starting at 8:00 p.m.
The show is sponsored by Albany Live, a local non-profit dedicated to bringing musical performances to the Aztec.
Tickets can be purchased on the website albanylive.org. Only general admission tickets remain at a cost of $50 each.

All parents of Albany students should plan to attend a special PTO meeting on Monday, Nov. 7, starting at 6:30 p.m. in the Nancy Smith Elementary School cafeteria.
According to Ragan Riley, who chaired the recent PTO Fall Fest, there are plans to elect new officers and reorganize the group.
Make-up games for the flag football league that same evening are supposed to be over in time for parents to attend the 6:30 meeting, Riley said.
It’s time to fall back! Daylight Savings Time comes to an end on Sunday, Nov. 6 at 2:00 a.m. Clocks should be set back an hour at that time.
Most of the United States reverts to standard time on the first Sunday in November. In the U.S., each time zone switches at a different time.
The implementation of Daylight Saving Time has been heaped with controversy since Benjamin Franklin first spoke of the idea in his 1784 essay, An Economical Project.

Volunteers are getting started on organizing the 2022 Annual Lighted Christmas Parade and Shop Small Town Saturday celebration in downtown Albany set for Saturday, Nov. 26.
The event, sponsored by the local Chamber of Commerce, is an Albany tradition and will include drawings for Albany Bucks in addition to the evening parade.

A 18-year-old girl led officers on a high speed chase through the southern part of Albany and then on to Baird before she was stopped by spikes just shy of reaching Interstate 20.
About 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 29, DPS officer Casey Smith clocked a vehicle at 92 miles per hour six miles west of Albany on Hwy. 180. When he turned his lights on, the driver contined east, reaching speeds of at least 114 MPH, Smith said.

Shackelford County veterans are invited to join local students for a Veterans Day celebration on next Friday, Nov. 11 at the Nancy Smith Elementary School cafeteria.
The program will start at 9:00 a.m.
Several patriotic songs will be presented by music students in grades 2-4. according to music teacher Danna Vaughan.
School counselor Susie Beard said that she has sent out just over 100 invitations to local veterans, but stressed that all veterans are urged to attend the celebration even if they did not receive an invitation.

Albany’s Cub Scout Pack 255 Wolf Den has two community service projects underway for retiring unserviceable American flags and providing Thanksgiving baskets for Shackelford County residents.
The Den of second and third graders will conduct a flag retirement ceremony later in November at the Boy Scout hut in Albany. The public is encouraged to bring any flags that are old, torn, have holes, or are faded and need retiring to 432 South Third St. in Albany, where they will be collected until the ceremony.
