BESSIE LEE ECHOLS

Bessie Lee Echols, age 87, of Albany Texas, passed away Friday afternoon Aug. 28, 2020.

She was born Feb. 19, 1933 in Shackelford County on a farm in between Albany and Moran to Margie and Newt Tabor.

Bessie was preceded in death by her first husband Billy Eugene Brush who was killed in an oilfield accident, then JC Echols known as “PaPa” who she was married to for 50 years. Bessie had two sisters Ruth McDonald and Ruby Jeanis and one brother, Newt Jr. Tabor.

BOB BOYCE

In the early morning hours of Aug. 22, 2020, Pastor Bob Boyce’s “paint was dry in his room.” (John 14:2-4 ESV)

Funeral Services were Tuesday, Aug. 25, 2020, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Albany, Texas, officiated by Reverend Tom Chandler and Reverend Dick Goodwill of Cedar Park. Burial followed at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. 

Pallbearers were Tiel Rector, Alan Archer, Tim Tumulty, Riley West, Justin Hollums, Cody Hollums, Blake Bernstein, and Ethen Bernstein.

DONA ROBINSON

Dona Marie Robinson 67, of Moran, Texas entered into her heavenly home Aug. 16, 2020.

A funeral service was held Wednesday, Aug. 19, at Gunsight Baptist Church. Interment followed at Johnson Ceme-tery in Moran, Texas. 

Dona was born Sept. 5, 1952 in Eastland, Texas to parents Don and Loreta (White) Reynolds. She was a graduate of Cisco High School and held a bachelors degree from Tarleton State College.

Jesse (Jay) Mack Cleveland

Born April 6, 1952 in San Antonio, Texas to Jesse and Mary Cleveland, Jesse (Jay) Mack Cleveland passed away July 15, 2020 in Ponca City, Oklahoma with family by his side. 

Unlike previous times, this is not a ploy to avoid creditors or people he despised. He assures us that he is gone. He will be greatly missed. 

Jesse was a 1970 graduate from Albany High School in Albany, Texas. He had a psychology degree from the University of St. Thomas in Houston, Texas.

EDDIE GREEN

Former Albany resident Eddie Neal Green died July 24, 2020 in Houston, Texas. 

Mr. Green has been dedicated to music education for over 50 years. He was band director at Albany High School from 1962-1964. 

He graduated from Southern Methodist University Summa Cum Laude in 1976 with a Master of Music Degree. 

His university experience includes work at Western Michigan University and the University of Houston. He has many students from these universities who are outstanding music educators today.

MARTHA ZENKNER

Martha Zenkner, age 79 of Springtown, formerly of Albany, passed away Wednesday, July 15, 2020. Her family will hold a memorial service at a later date. Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Morehart Mortuary of Albany.

Martha Elizabeth Bowsher was born Feb. 11, 1941 in Albany, Texas to parents, George Bowsher and Anna Shelton Bowsher. She married Manfred Zenkner on Dec. 4, 1960 in Albany. 

Upon moving back to Albany, she worked at City Grocery. Mrs. Zenkner enjoyed quilting, woodworking and fishing in her spare time. 

DON GREEN

Don Charles Green, 80, passed away July 20, 2020 in Abilene, Texas Graveside service was held Wednesday July 22 at Albany Cemetery, under the direction of Girdner Funeral Home, Abilene.

Don was born Sept. 13, 1939 in Odessa to Neal and Sena Green. The family moved to the Breckenridge/Albany area where he attended schools. He was employed at First National Bank in Albany for 26 years. 

John A. “Warden” Matthews

Following in his father’s footsteps, the second generation Matthews’ man to portray the Old Timer in the Fort Griffin Fandangle rode off to greener pastures Saturday, July 18, 2020 at a spry 101. 

From the Shackelford County pioneering Matthews family, Albany Texas’ beloved native son, John Alexander Matthews, was born on March 9, 1919, the only child of Joseph Beck and Louise Webb Matthews.

A.V. Jones, Jr., a pillar of the Albany, Texas, community and the independent oil and gas industry, died peacefully at home on July 12, following a brief illness. He was 88 years old.

Barbara “Bobbie” Moberley, 79, of Abilene passed away peacefully Tuesday, July 14, 2020 at Hendrick Hospice Care in Abilene, after a lengthy battle with multiple ailments. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 9:45 a.m., Saturday morning, July 18 at Morehart Mortuary in Albany. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. that morning at the Albany Cemetery.
