Albany Little League concluded its 2025 regular season last week, with teams in both the Majors and Minors divisions now turning their attention to postseason play in the District 5 Little League tournament.

The Albany Lions’ postseason baseball run came to an end Saturday after falling in three games to the undefeated Gruver Greyhounds in the regional semifinals, but not before the team delivered one of its most memorable performances of the season.

Albany (12-7-3) opened the best-of-three series with a dominant 10-0 win over Gruver in Game 1, handing the Greyhounds their first loss of the year.

The Centennial Classic to mark 100 years at Albany Golf Club

Albany Golf Club will mark its 100th anniversary next month with the Centennial Classic, a special Father’s Day weekend tournament set for June 14–15. The event will celebrate a century of local golf history with a competitive scramble, Saturday night gathering, and a recreation of a historic club photo.

Lions head to Oklahoma for regional semifinal

The Albany Lions continued their postseason run with a two-game sweep over the Wink Wildcats in the area round of the Class 2A D2 baseball playoffs, played Thursday, May 8 in Colorado City. 

Albany now turns its focus to the regional semifinals, with a best-of-three series scheduled against the Gruver Greyhounds. 

All games will be played at Ackley Park in Elk City, Oklahoma – possibly the first time the Lions have ever played a game of any kind out of state.

Mixed doubles pairs headed to state in San Antonio

Albany High School will be represented by two mixed doubles teams at the UIL State Tennis Tournament – an achievement that reflects a standout season for the program.

The state tournament will take place May 15-16 at Blossom Tennis Center in San Antonio, with Albany’s teams preparing for a send-off scheduled for 10:45 a.m. Wednesday.

Lions, Lady Lions recognized at athletic banquet

Albany High School celebrated its top athletes during the annual Athletic Banquet on Tuesday, May 13, highlighting a year of achievement and perseverance across all sports.  

Sponsored by the Albany Athletic Booster Club, the event honored teams, individuals, and 10 senior athletes with special awards given in memory of influential community members that acknowledge athletic achievement, leadership, and character.

Albany sweeps Bearcats, advances to area round

The Albany Lions baseball team took down the De Leon Bearcats in two straight games last week to win their bi-district playoff series and move on to the area round of the UIL Class 2A playoffs.

The local players advance to the area level, with games against Wink today (Thursday) in Colorado City.

Albany opened the best-of-three series with a 5-2 win on Thursday, followed by a 2-1 victory on Friday to complete the sweep.

Albany tennis team heads to regionals this weekend

With a mix of veteran experience and rising talent, nine Albany High School athletes will compete in five events at the Region II-2A tennis tournament May 9-10, hoping to secure a trip to the state tournament.

The regional competition will be held at Richland Tennis Center in North Richland Hills. The top two finishers in each bracket will qualify for the UIL Class 2A State Tournament, set for May 15-16 in San Antonio.

AGC season opener in the books

 

Albany Golf Club kicked off its tournament season this past weekend with the annual Christmas for Kids tournament, raising $8,500 to help provide gifts for local children in need this holiday season.

The event topped last year’s total of $7,500, thanks to strong participation and generous donations.

Teams competed across three flights in the scramble-format tournament, with the top finishers as follows:
