By Donnie A. Lucas The Albany Cubs opened the season with a pair of shutout wins in Dublin last week. The teams will travel to Hamlin this Thursday (today) for the next bouts, with the seventh graders playing Wylie East’s seventh graders at Hamlin starting at 4:00 p.m.

By Donnie A. Lucas Both the seventh and eighth grade girls won their volleyball matches last week against Woodson. The eighth grade girls hosted Moran’s junior high on Tuesday, while the seventh grade team was on the road at Abilene Christian School on Tuesday.

Several Albany High School runners were scheduled to participate in their first cross country meet of the season in Haskell Wednesday morning despite heavy rainfall around the Big Country area.

By Lynsi Musselman Senior night for the Albany Lions will take place this Friday night, Sept. 4 before the game against Dublin at 7:00 p.m. Traditionally, ‘Senior Night’ is reserved for the last home game of the football season.

By Donnie A. Lucas The JV Lions opened the football season in Colorado City last Thursday, bringing home a 44-6 victory. Albany will travel to Dublin this week for a Thursday game at the Lions’ new stadium near the high school on Hwy. 6 south of downtown.

By Donnie A. Lucas The Lady Cubs volleyball season started this week with games hosted in Albany against Woodson, and Cub football is slated to kick off on Thursday (today) in Dublin. Results of the volleyball games were not available at press time but will be reported next week.

By Lynsi Musselman The Moran Bulldogs’ home opener against non-conference Benjamin Mustangs was a tough loss, but  the Bulldogs are looking ahead to play Evant on the road this Friday. Moran plays in Evant on Friday, Sept. 4 at 7:30 p.m.

By Lynsi Musselman The Lady Bulldogs have lost the last two games in three sets against Benjamin and Woodson. Moran High School volleyball coach Jo Hise said even though they lost the games, it gave the team a chance to work on their rotation and working each player into rotation.

By Donnie A. Lucas The Lion varsity football team opened the 2020 season at home last Friday, blanking the Colorado City Wolves 48-0 in a non-district bout.

By Donnie A. Lucas The Lady Lion volleyball team picked up three more wins last week, including opening the district race in Ranger. Albany hosted Woodson on Tuesday, earning a 25-9, 25-7, 25-13 win to go to 8-1 for the season.
