TheAlbany Junior High tennis program conducted intrasquad play last week in preparation for its district tournament. This week, however, has seen a series of obstacles.

The Albany Lions are in the running for the top spot in district after a 6-3 victory over Haskell April 16 and a decisive 11-0 win at Cisco on Tuesday. The Lions (13-2 overall, 7-2 District 8-2A) are currently in sole possession of second place in the district standings, a game back of Stamford.

The Albany News will take team and individual photos of the Little League Oilers tonight (Thursday), with the other three teams to be scheduled next week. On Saturday, all t-ball and coach pitch teams associated with the Albany Little League Association will be taken starting at 8:00 a.m.

The Moran boys doubles pair of Caleb York and Ellis Hise won a playback Monday, April 22 at the District 13-1A tennis tournament to qualify for regional competition. The Region II-1A tournament will be played Thursday-Friday, May 9-10 at San Angelo.

Moran FFA’s meat judging team is preparing for its debut in state competition with Rayni Vinson, Caleb York, Cotten Campbell, and Ellis Hise competing Saturday, April 27 at TexasA&M. “This is the first time Moran FFA has ever qualified for state competition,” Moran superintendent Dr.

The Albany Lions and Lady Lions will send eight athletes in eight events to regional after their performances Thursday, April 11 at the area track meet at Graham. The Region II-2A meet is scheduled for Friday-Saturday, April 19-20 at Porcupine Stadium in Springtown.

The Albany Lions golf team is headed to the Class 2A state tournament for the third year in a row after finishing third at the Region II-2A tournament.

Haskell to insure position The Albany Lions put themselves on the brink of qualifying for the Class 2A baseball playoffs Friday, April 12 with a 12-2 win over Anson. The Lions (12-2 overall, 6-2 District 8-2A) entered their final home game on Tuesday, April 16 needing to beat Haskell to clinch.

The Albany Lady Lions softball team squeezed in three games in five days as they approach their final game of the regular season. Albany (8-4) closes out the district schedule at 5:00 p.m.

The Moran athletic year is down to tennis this spring as three boys players are preparing for the upcoming District 13-1A tournament.
