Prairie Star to reopen April 8

After closing its doors about a year ago, a local convenience store is slated to reopen on April 8 under new ownership and management following renovations and repairs. Known for the last 24 years as Prairie Star, the business will continue to operate under the previous name and will be managed by local resident Shana Hogue, who herself has over 16 years of experience in the grocery store business.

As Shackelford County begins to throw off the blankets and move from winter into spring, preparations are being made for severe weather that oftenaccompanieswarmer temperatures. Activities include a local Skywarn class for storm spotters and weather drills at the Albany schools.

The Old JailArt Center has been approved by the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) for a Challenge America award of $10,000, according to an announcement made last month by the NEA. The grant will support the Cell Series of exhibitions featuring works by living artists within the cells of its repurposed 1877 jail structure.
