Holidays set March 29, April 1
Albany students and staff will have holidays on Friday,March29andMonday, April 1 in observance of Easter. These are the last scheduled holidays for the 2024-2025 school.
Prairie Star to reopen April 8
After closing its doors about a year ago, a local convenience store is slated to reopen on April 8 under new ownership and management following renovations and repairs. Known for the last 24 years as Prairie Star, the business will continue to operate under the previous name and will be managed by local resident Shana Hogue, who herself has over 16 years of experience in the grocery store business.
Skywarn class slated April 15
As Shackelford County begins to throw off the blankets and move from winter into spring, preparations are being made for severe weather that oftenaccompanieswarmer temperatures. Activities include a local Skywarn class for storm spotters and weather drills at the Albany schools.
City starts work clearing 42 acres
Preliminary plans for a new housing development are currently being made by the City of Albany and its Economic DevelopmentCorporation,with a total of 42 acres being cleared by city employees, according to city manager Billy Holson.
Trustees lean toward traditional week
Albany ISD trustees offered a contract to well-known girls coach Larry Tidwell and also discussed at length their feelings about the possibility of changing to a four-day school week during a meeting on Monday, March 18.
4-Hers compete in archery, create Easter food baskets

OJAC receives grant from NEA
The Old JailArt Center has been approved by the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) for a Challenge America award of $10,000, according to an announcement made last month by the NEA. The grant will support the Cell Series of exhibitions featuring works by living artists within the cells of its repurposed 1877 jail structure.
Moran ISD stays with 4-day week
TheMoranIndependent School District board voted unanimously at its Monday, March 18 meeting to adopt the proposed school calendar for the 2024-25 school year. The district will adopt a four-day week for the third year in a row.

Four Shackelford County youth helped usher in a new era earlier this month at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, competing intheshow’sfirstjunior ranch rodeo. TheeventwasheldSunday, March 3 at Houston’s NRG Arena.
