A new president was elected and four directors were re-elected to another term at the annual membership meeting of the Fort Griffin Fandangle Association held Tuesday, Oct. 12.
Henry Musselman was elected as president for the upcoming year, while former president Branch Bartee stepped down to the office of vice president. Gaye Davis was picked as treasurer and Pam Davis will serve as secretary.

Shackelford County Hospital board members voted to move forward with a search for a new district administrator during an Oct. 18 meeting.
They had voted on a similar motion in June after the former administrator, Jera Fairley, left the district’s employ in late May, but according to board president Jo Ann Estridge, they opted to “wait until after the audit is finished,” although there hasn’t been further explanation.
District secretary Regina Whitt said Monday that she expects the auditors to be present at the next meeting.

There will be plenty to do this Saturday, Oct. 23 at Webb Park for folks attending the Albany Chamber of Commerce’s Home of the Hereford Cookoff and Cornhole Tournament.
Cookoff categories start with dutch oven bread at 10:00 a.m. and continue with a turn-in time every hour or so with desserts, fish, vegetables, chicken, wild game, pork, and beef. Awards will be presented about 7:15 p.m.

Work is underway to make needed repairs and improvements on the exterior of the Aztec Theater, a major renovation project that is expected to cost in the neighborhood of $200,000, according to Aztec of Albany board president John Caldwell.
Board members made the decision earlier this year that a “complete makeover” was needed to prevent further water damage to the theater, which is nearing 100 years old.

Four Moran seventh grade FFA students competed in Agricultural Product Identification on Monday at the State Fair of Texas in Dallas, placing fifth among FFA teams.
Team members are Cutter Campbell, Jaelynn Cottle, Ashlyn Crawford and Landon Moreno.
Moran FFA sponsor Minnie Denson said the competition tested students’ ability to identify a variety of agricultural products as well as their knowledge of the products.

Moran has scheduled two days of events for its homecoming weekend on Oct. 22-23.
Honored classes for the weekend will be 1946 and 1947 (75th anniversary), 1971 and 1972 (50th) and 1996 and 1997 (25th).
The activities get underway at 2:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 22 with a community pep rally in downtown Moran.
Other Friday events include alumni volleyball and football games. Volleyball will start at 5:00 p.m. at the Moran ISD gym with football starting at 7:00 p.m. at Bulldog Field.

Albany residents can get a good lunch, watch golf, and support worthy causes Friday at the 14th annual John Rose & Jim Law Memorial Albany Kiwanis Charity Golf Tournament and Fajita Fiesta.
While the tournament is expected to have a full field, the fajita lunch is open to the public at $15 per plate.
The event was rescheduled from its original date of Oct. 1.
The tournament raises funds for the Albany K Charity Scholarship Fund as well as a number of other local projects.

Albany downtown will be filled with ghosts and goblins on Saturday afternoon, Oct. 30, as local merchants, along with others interested in setting up on the sidewalk, hand out Halloween candy.
The trick-or-treat event is scheduled from 2:30 until 4:30 p.m. in the downtown business blocks.
Besides local downtown merchants, anyone else interested in setting up a table on the sidewalk between businesses is welcome to do so, according to Chamber of Commerce manager Mary Beth Jones.

John Caldwell and Friends will perform after the awards are given at the Albany Chamber of Commerce’s Home of the Hereford Cookoff and Cornhole Tournament on Saturday, Oct. 23 at Webb
Park.
The event, which will raise money for new decorations the Chamber puts up throughout Albany, was rescheduled from its original date of Oct. 2.
The cookoff will consist of competition in eight categories. Entrants must preregister, according to Chamber manager Mary Beth Jones. Entry fee is $20 per category. Payout will be based on the number of entries.

Ticket holders for the Friends of Fort Griffin Gala held Saturday were treated to a prime rib dinner and the music of Larry, Steve, & Rudy: The Gatlins while helping raise funding for projects at the historic fort.
The gathering was held at Collins Creek Ranch, which is located at the base of the Fort Griffin Historic Site, and includes the “flat” where the town of Fort Griffin was established almost 150 years ago.
