The local prom dress ministry has moved to a new home at First Christian Church and will be directed by Tammy McBee. “Lori Reames from Closet Angels called and asked me if I would take over this ministry so it could continue to be a blessing for the community, and offer it a new home,” said McBee.

The City of Moran Volunteer Fire Department is holding a bake sale this Sunday, Nov. 18, from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. at the Moran Community Center. “If you don’t feel like baking this year, come and get some goodies for your family’s Thanksgiving meal,” said organizer Michelle Taggart.

An early deadline has been set for the Nov. 22 edition of The Albany News due to the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday. All advertising and news copy must be received no later than noon on Monday, Nov. 19.  The usual deadline for the weekly paper is Tuesday at 12:00 noon.

The 1980 romantic drama Urban Cowboy will be shown at the Aztec Theater this Saturday, Nov. 10 as the final movie of the 2018 Aztec Reel Deal movie series for season ticket holders, or for $6 per ticket for those that prefer to pick and choose which movies to attend.

The city of Albany will receive a sales tax allotment of $56,730 from the state this October. The amount is down 15.54 percent from the $67,174 payment received in October of 2017. Payments to date for the 2018 year to the city of Albany are $445,471, down by 2.

Friends of Fort Griffin, a local non-profit whose primary purpose is to help preserve and restore the original buildings at Fort Griffin State Historical Site, was recently selected as the recipient of the Friends of the Texas Historical Commission 2019 Friends Alliance Award for Stewardship.
