For the fourth year in a row, the Albany FCCLA chapter is conducting its Turkey Teacher Contest. Students vote with $1 donations to select a secondary teacher or staff member to wear a turkey costume all day on Friday, Nov.

Matthews Memorial Presbyterian Church Young Explorers class is digging into the fall feasts of Leviticus 23 this year in its endeavor to equip students with an overview of the structure and story of the Bible. Young Explorers is made up of students in fourth through seventh grade,meetingWednesday afternoons to play review games, dig deeper, and create special projects like salt maps of the Middle East and construction of a sukkah, a temporary dwelling to celebrate the Feast of the Tabernacles or Sukkot.

The 9th, 11th, and 12th grade classes tied for first place in the competition with 100 percent of team members successfully returning to The Feed Store without being caught by spotlighters.

The Albany News’ 19th annual holiday recipe section will be published in one month, with favorite recipes being solicited from all ages of current and former Albany and Moran chefs and bakers. “We’ve had really good response since we started publishing the recipe guides, and we’re looking forward to getting this one underway,” said News editor Melinda Lucas.
