Classes to start next Monday

The 2019-2020 school year starts at 8:00 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 26 for students in the Moran Independent School District, and staff members have been busily preparing for their arrival.

“Teachers have been hard at work getting their classrooms prepared,” said new principal Jo Hise. “We are super excited and ready for a new year!”

According to administrative assistant Jeannie TenCate, 105 students are already enrolled and an additional 10 to 15 transfer students are also expected.

New staff members welcomed at Moran ISD

The Moran School District will begin the new year with four new faculty members, John Hughes, Robert Londerholm, Elizabeth Martin, and Betty Galvan. In addition, veteran teacher Jo Hise will assume the role of principal.

“We are excited about the beginning of another school year with several new educators and students as well,” said MISD superintendent Danny Freeman.

Several events during the next couple of weeks can help Moran residents get organized for fall and the start of a new school year.

Meet the Bulldogs/Open House

The first community-wide event of the new school year takes place tonight, Aug. 22, at 5:00 p.m. at the local school campus.

The 2019-2020 football, volleyball, and cross country teams will be introduced to everyone who comes to Meet the Bulldogs.

Open House and Meet the Teacher will follow at 5:30 p.m.

4-H meeting for participants, prospective members slated

Shackelford County youth between the ages of eight and 18 who are interested in participating in 4-H activities are encouraged to attend a 4-H club meeting next Tuesday, Aug. 27 at 6:30 p.m. at The Feed Store.

“Are you interested in food and nutrition, learning more about your show animals, sewing, STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics), community service, or learning how to shoot a rifle in competition?” Kristie Smith asked. “Then join us at the meeting.”

Leading psychologists say micro-stressing can have a significant neurological impact. Fifty-eight percent of workers struggle to switch off when they arrive home each day.

We’ve all been there; we’re about to rush out to work but somehow our keys have gone missing from the fruit bowl we left them in, or we get halfway to the coffee shop when suddenly there’s a flash of doubt as to whether we turned our straighteners off before leaving the house.

Waller, Mumford exchange vows

Steve and Susan Waller of Albany announce the marriage of their daughter, Katherine Elizabeth Waller, to Mason Ray Mumford, son of Robbie Mumford and the late Marvin Mumford of Corpus Christi.

The bride was given in marriage by her father on  May 26, 2019 at 5:00 p.m. at Utopia United Methodist Church in Utopia, Texas. Chad Chamness officiated.

The bride is the granddaughter of Winifred Waller of Albany and Sharon Siewert Knaus of Abilene.

Delores Conway of Corpus Christi is the grandmother of the groom. 

Winners named in 2019 truck show

Shifters Car Club third annual Truck Show took place in downtown Albany last Saturday, with 23 entries in the contest and assorted host vehicles also on display.

Robert Eakins of Stephenville won Best of Show, Bobby Kerrell from Graham claimed Best Truck, and winners were announced in several additional categories.

Jerry Davis, age 75 of Breckenridge, passed away Thursday, Aug. 15, 2019. Funeral services were held Sunday, Aug. 18 at Morehart Mortuary Chapel with Rev. Mark Wilcox officiating. Interment followed in the Hart Cemetery under the direction of Morehart Mortuary. 

Jerry Keith Davis was born Aug. 20, 1943 in Rush Springs, Oklahoma to his parents, Glenn Roe Davis and Lorene Heatley Davis.

Bobby Joe McCoy

Bobby Joe McCoy, 81, of Abilene and formerly of Albany and Cisco, passed from this life Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2019 in Abilene. 

Bobby will be cremated, and a celebration of his life will be held at the Feed Store in Albany on Saturday, Aug. 24 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.

Bobby was born in Cisco, the son of James David and Willie (Barton) McCoy. He attended school in Cisco until he had to start working to help support his family. He worked as manager and part owner in multiple businesses in Cisco, Albany, and Abilene.

JIM STUART

Jim Stuart, 70 of Albany, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2019 at his home. Celebration of his life was held Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2019 at the First Christian Church of Albany, with Dennis Patience and Brad McBee officiating the service. Interment followed in Lamesa, Texas at the Dawson County Cemetery.
