Seat reservations required in Hico

Albany ISD administrators remind Lion fans that their names must be on the official list by the end of the school day on Friday in order to gain admittance to Friday’s game in Hico.

Golf Club meeting, tournament set Saturday

Members of the Albany Golf Club are encouraged to attend the club’s annual business meeting at the municipal golf course on Saturday, Oct. 10, and then stay and play in the Championship Tournament starting at 1:00 p.m. that afternoon.

“We will meet for a brisket sandwich lunch on Saturday, at about 11:30 a.m., and have a short meeting to elect or reelect board members,” said member James Waters.

Results listed for Kiwanis scholarship fundraiser

Two teams scored 53 strokes each at the Albany Kiwanis John Rose and Jim Law Memorial Golf Tournament Oct. 2, and the deadlock for top place was settled by the common tie-breaking practice of a scorecard playoff.

Team Waterhole #2 (Zane Jones, Sean Loyer, Tommy Barton, and Booger Hughes) was awarded first place at the charity golf tournament with a score of 53. Placing second after the tie-breaker were James Waters, Charles Barrett, Rodney Barton, and Randy Walker at 53.

MHS royalty crowned

Sondra O’Keefe and Corey Miller were crowned Homecoming Queen and King during halftime of the Moran and Three Way football game at Bulldog Stadium last Friday night, Oct. 2.

Others included in the homecoming court were queen nominees Dariann Hawley, Corley Hendricks, Baylee Orsak, and Tiffany Wade, and king candidate Bailey Hitch.

Also honored as royalty were princess Hannah Rogers, prince Zak Keith, duchess Alli Scott, duke Memphis McGough, lady-in-waiting Brooke Orsak, and paige Toby Eason.

Bulldogs to play in Rule Friday

The Moran Bulldogs lost 14-61 against non-conference Three Way last Friday, Oct. 2.

 MISD athletic director John Hughes said the team might have lost but he is proud of how the group played.

“We started three freshman on both sides of the ball Friday night,” Hughes explained. “It’s time to get ready to play the Rule Bobcats at their house.”

Moran plays in Rule on Friday, Oct. 9 at 7:30 a.m.

City to host tire collection

The City of Moran will hold a household trash collection and free tire and trash disposal on Saturday, Oct. 24 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. or until the containers are full.

A separate container for metal will be provided.

Participants must show proof of residency with an electricity or water bill or a drivers license.

The collections will take place at the old rodeo grounds at 900 Ground Street.

Jackie Mitchell

JACKIE MITCHELL

Jackie Mitchell, age 76 of Albany, passed away Monday, Oct. 5, 2020. 

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, Oct. 10 at the Albany Cemetery Pavilion, officiated by Stewart McWilliams, son-in-law of Jackie and Carolyn. 

Jackie’s wishes were to be cremated. There will be a gathering time afterwards at MMPC Fellowship Hall.

RICKEY EDGAR

Rickey Edgar, age 69 of Albany, passed away Friday, Oct. 2, 2020. Graveside funeral services were held Sunday, Oct. 4 in the Moran Cemetery with Rev. Jeff Pleasant officiating. Interment followed under the direction of Morehart Mortuary.  

Rickey Doyle Edgar was born June 20, 1951 in Albany, Texas, to parents Richard Wines Edgar and Bonnie Lee Garrett Edgar. He graduated from Moran High School and then served in the United States Army. 

Moran homecoming set Friday

It is homecoming week in Moran, and the students and faculty have been gearing up for the game on Friday, Oct. 2 at 7:30 p.m. against the Three Way Braves.

Each day this week, the school has had a designated spirit dress day, with Friday being “get into school spirit and wear purple and gold.”

There will be a pep rally on Friday at 3:15 p.m. at the football field, with awards being handed for the best dressed during spirit week. 

Albany sees spike in COVID cases

Albany ISD administrators decided to step back and take a day to regroup last week after three student cases of -COVID-19 were confirmed Thursday on the secondary campus, all within the volleyball program.

Members of the varsity, along with two coaches, were quarantined, and junior high players who rode on a bus with them were being monitored this week.
