The junior high volleyball teams played a set of games on Sept. 24, and the two A teams also played in the Hawley Tournament on Saturday with mixed results.
The 8A team was the only squad to play on Tuesday, hosting Woodson.
Three of the four local teams are scheduled to play in the Graham tournament on Saturday starting at 8:30 a.m.
Albany’s 7A team traveled to Moran on Sept. 24, bringing home a 25-18, 25-13 win.

The JV Lions defeated the visiting Clyde freshman team, 56-0, last Thursday to keep a perfect 5-0 season record.
The JV is open this week, but will be back in action next week hosting the Stamford Bulldogs. The game will follow the eighth grade matchup against Stamford.

The Albany Cubs traveled to Peaster last Thursday, with the eighth grade playing to a 22-22 tie and the seventh grade bringing home a 26-8 win.
Both teams are open this week but will return to the gridiron next Thursday to host Stamford starting at 4:30 p.m. with the seventh grade. The eighth grade game will follow at approximately 5:30 p.m. and the JV will take the field at about 6:45 p.m.

Two teams scored 56 strokes each at the Albany Kiwanis Charity Golf Tournament last Friday and the deadlock for top place was settled by the common tie-breaking practice of a scorecard playoff.
Thirteen teams competed in the 12th annual John Rose and Jim Law Memorial Tournament, which was held at the Albany Golf Club on Friday, Sept. 27.
The API team of Ronnie Anderson, Charles Barrett, Tommy Terrell, and Bob Tidwell was awarded first place at the charity golf tournament with a score of 56.

Homecoming is this weekend, and although there is not a parade scheduled this year, there are several special events on the calendar for students, former students, and friends of the Moran Independent School District.
High school students painted the downtown streets Wednesday evening.
Dress-up week continues at the school with everyone encouraged to sport some facial hair today for Mustache Day and wear their purple and gold attire on Friday. which is designated as Spirit Day.

Moran will host both the Chillicothe junior high football team and the varsity for homecoming games at Bulldog Field this Friday, Oct. 4.
The junior high Bulldogs are scheduled to take the field first at 5:30 p.m.
The varsity follows at 7:30 p.m.
The Bulldogs are 3-1 under new head coach John Hughes and are currently ranked 30th in Division 2 1A by sixmanfootball.com.
The Eagles are 2-2 after losing to Throckmorton 22-28 last Friday night.
The Bulldogs had a bye last week after falling to Rotan 19-25 on Sept. 20.

The 1A Lady Bulldogs faced 2A teams in District 6 competition last week and fell to both of the larger schools in three sets.
Hawley came to Moran and took back a 25-6, 25-11, 13-25 win on Tuesday, Sept. 24.
The Lady Bulldogs contended with the Lady Lions in Albany on Saturday, Sept. 28 at 10:00 a.m. and dropped to 7-8 on the season after losing 15-25, 7-25, 15-25.
“We are still working on our coverage behind the block,” said coach Jo Hise.
However, the coach is able to see her team making headway.

Ticket holders are encouraged to arrive at the Friends of Fort Griffin 16th Annual Gala at Griffin Flat on the Collins Creek Ranch this Saturday, Oct. 6, as early in the evening as they can, because Doug Moreland will give a demonstration of his chainsaw carving abilities as soon as the gates to the ranch open for the event at 6:00 p.m.
“Last year Doug worked on it until the rain stopped him,” said organizer Susan Waller. “It was awesome to watch him work!”

Albany High School seniors Tyler Beard and Jaleigh Morales were crowned 2019 Homecoming King and Queen during halftime ceremonies last Friday night during the Lions’ 41-0 win over the visiting Peaster before a large homecoming crowd.
Morales and Beard were presented as part of a field of eight senior class candidates, four boys and four girls.
The two were chosen by the entire student body by secret ballot last week after each class at Albany High School had nominated a senior boy and girl for the honor.

After holding two required public hearings in the past few weeks, neither of which recorded any opposition from local residents, Shackelford County commissioners adopted the proposed budget and tax rate at a special meeting on Monday, Sept. 30.
Elected officials also opened and awarded bids for mowing and fuel, as well as acting on a number of other routine items in a fairly long agenda on Monday morning.
