Albany and Shackelford County avoided the large hail that a Monday afternoon thunderstormdumpedonother parts of the Big Country, but there were a few unofficial reports of damage caused by straight-line winds. In fact, even though the sheriff’s office didn’t receive any calls about the storm, Albany ended up at the top of the list forthehighestwindgustcaused by the storm, which moved through Texas and Oklahoma on up to Kansas and Missouri.

The Feed Store will host its annual Life Skills program for high school juniors and seniors on Wednesday, April 10. The morning includes instruction on topics the students will soon need to take care of for themselves.

Supply problems prevented Albany FFA member Jake Hale from entering an ag mechanics project in contests at major shows this year. The good news is he has a nearly complete project to use for next year.

Albany’s Project Graduation is soliciting donations from local businesses and community members to help with this year’s graduation party. Co-organizer Tisha Wilkins said more than 300 letters will be sent out seeking contributions.

StudentsatbothAlbany ISD campuses are preparing for the first round of state-mandated testing scheduled to begin next Wednesday, April 10. Students in grades three through eight will take STAAR tests in Reading Language Arts next week, along with students enrolled in English I and II taking End of Course exams.
