NSES students plant garden
Nancy Smith Elementary students got to try their hands at gardening on Friday prior to spring break. New garden beds were provided for each grade leveltoplantseedlingsthat they started in January.
Classes to resume Monday
Albany ISD students and staff are out of school this week for the spring break holidays but will all return to the classroom on Monday, March 18. Classes will resume at normal times on Monday, with the elementary classes starting at 7:55 a.m.
4-H gets in some ‘Fast Fashion’
ShackelfordCounty4-H members took part in a “Fast Fashion” workshop Thursday, March 7 at Closet Angels. The program involved putting together fashionable outfits from used, recycled, and second-hand garments.
MISD starts spring break with ‘Fling’
Moran ISD got a jump start on spring break Wednesday, March 6 with its annual Spring Fling at Bulldog Field. “We had a really good turnout,” Moran principal Jo Hise said.
Mothers Day Out visits library
Children aged 3 to 5 attending the Mothers Day Out childcare program at Matthews Memorial Presbyterian Church enjoyed a St. Patrick’s Day-themed excursion Friday, March 8 to the Shackelford County Library.
Exhibitors earn spots in Houston
Albany FFA students continued their participation in major stock shows over spring break with stops in Houston and Austin. At the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, Jake Hale competed in the Commercial Steer contest, finishing in the premium salewithhisChoice2steers weighing 1,350 pounds.

Exhibitors from the 2024 Shackelford County Youth and Livestock Show have until Tuesday, April 2 to fulfill their obligations. Showparticipantsmust have completed writing thank you notes to buyers andmeetotherobligations.
Albany FFA sells fresh eggs, chicks
The Albany FFA team Farm Business Management placed third at the Texas Farm and Ranch CDE contest, held Friday, March 1 in Abilene. The team of Mimi Ivy, Robyn Trail, Kolt Koemel, and Brooklyn Abbate represented Albany.
Band performs at Titanic Museum
The Ragin’ Red Band completed the biennial spring trip on Sunday, returning from Branson, Missouri after performing at the Titanic Museum, attending a musical show, andspendingadayatSilver Dollar City. “The trip went very smoothly, and the kids all had a blast,” director William Vaughan said.
Cast, crew of Albany one-act play win honors
Albany High’s one-act play cast and crew presented their production of “Oz” at district competition in Haskell last week, and while failing to advance to the bi-district round, several members of the cast and crew did receive recognition.
