Cattle production program planned

Shackelford and Throckmorton county extension services are combining efforts for another adult education program about cattle production. Shackelford County extension agent Kelsey Bell said the program will cover cow-calf management.

April 20 at Collins Creek The membership drive and ticket sales for the 2024 season of the Fort Griffin Fandangle are well underway,withtheannual membership Sampler set for April 20 at Collins Creek Ranch. Letters were mailed in January to previous members of the association, and invitations to the Sampler are being mailed daily as new or renewal memberships are received.

Denson’s contract Moran FFA student MaeKayla Kersey claimed reserve champion Branvieh heifer last weekend at the San Angelo Stock Show despite being unable to step into the show ring. Kersey, a freshman, received an assist from schoolmate Rayni Vinson, who led the heifer into the arena.

Feb. 26 blood drive changed to Monday

Because of staffing at the Hendrick Regional Blood Center, this month’s blood drive in Albany will move from the usual Thursday afternoon time slot to a Monday, set for Monday, Feb. 26 instead of the original Feb.

FFA exhibitors show at San Angelo

Albany FFA students had a busy week at the San Angelo Stock Show, with more than 40 swine and cattle exhibited last week. In the Junior Gilt show, Emily Schedule with a Duroc and Maddie Stapp with a Yorkshire both placed fourthintheirclasses.Calie Turner was fifth with a Spot and Callan Edgar was seventh in LOPB.

Amended budget approved

Albany city council members met briefly on Monday night, Feb. 12 to approve an amended budget for the current fiscal yearshowing$4,240,400in expenditures rather than the original projection of $3,703,700, mostly due to a block grant added to the budget for street repairs.
