Albany experienced a sudden downpour Thursday night, July 3, when more than five inches of rain fell in roughly two hours, leading to brief flash flooding across town. Though several roads were overtaken by rising water, no serious injuries were reported and property damage remained limited.

Two large bee hives were removed from the Shackelford County Courthouse on Thursday, July 3, after being discovered high under the eaves of the building’s third floor. The removal was conducted by Sadie Grace Farms, a beekeeping company based in Abilene that specializes in humane relocation.

Fandangle draws more than 3,000 as 87th season concludes

The 87th anniversary of the Fort Griffin Fandangle closed its 2025 season Saturday night, following two weekends of performances at the Prairie Theater that brought in a total of 3,021 ticket holders.Shows were held June 20–21 and June 27–28, with strong crowds each night.

Summer Day Camp begins Monday

ResourceCare’s annual Summer Day Camp begins next Monday, July 14, with 124 children ages 3 through sixth grade set to participate in the two-week program.“Thanks to some late applicants, we were able to add back our pre-K and kindergarten groups,” said camp co-director Mindy Ary.

Fandangle returns after strong first weekend

The Fort Griffin Fandangle opened its 87th season this past weekend to strong attendance, welcoming more than 1,500 guests over the course of its first two shows.An estimated 600 people filled the stands Friday night for opening night, followed by a crowd of approximately 900 on Saturday.
