After graduating last Friday night, members of the Albany High School Class of 2022 celebrated at the annual Project Graduation event that started and ended at The Feed Store.

According to organizer Kenzie Fairchild, 31 of the 34 seniors took part in the all-night party that featured activities, food, and prizes all donated by local businesses and individuals.

“It all went well,” Fairchild said. “I think the kids really had fun and were able to get some nice gifts and prizes.”

The annual Fort Griffin Fandangle parade is just over two weeks away, and organizers are looking for both sponsors and entries.

This year’s parade is scheduled to roll down Main Street at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 19.

Groups, families, and individuals, as well as sponsors, are urged to sign up by filling out an entry form at the Fandangle office located in the depot building.

Although the regular school year ended last week, some Albany ISD students will be returning for three weeks of summer school starting Monday, June 6.

Summer school classes will be held from 8:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon on Monday through Friday, ending on Friday, June 24. Both campuses will follow the same schedule.

Parents of students who are required to attend should have been notified already, according to school officials. However, anyone who has questions can contact either the elementary or secondary offices for assistance.

A meeting about next year’s dual credit offerings at Albany High School, originally planned for this Friday, June 3, has been postponed because of the regional final baseball game scheduled for that day in Snyder.

Local counselor Jenny Scott, who will present the options to students and parents along with fellow counselor Michaela Bradford, said Tuesday that they will reschedule the meeting in the near future.

AHS currently partners with Cisco College to provide opportunities to concurrently earn academic credit in high school and college.

Albany Methodist Church pastor Tim Trimble will be honored with a reception from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Saturday, June 4, with a change of location from the Feed Store to the Methodist Church fellowship hall.

Trimble is retiring after more than 16 years in the ministry, the last nine in Albany.

Trimble and his wife, Betty, will be moving to Brownwood to be closer to family.

For the second year in a row, children who attend Matthews Memorial Presbyterian Church Mother’s Day Out (MDO) were able to explore different parts of the Albany community.

Under the direction of Brandi Lehew and the MDO staff, the students incorporated different aspects of Albany community life into their spring semester curriculum.

Parents are reminded to stop by the Albany News office to pick up photo packets of players in various spring and summer sports league.

Packages that weren’t paid in advance or charged to established accounts can be ordered when paid for.

Little League and Junior League packets are being ordered this week and will be available for pickup by Tuesday, June 7.

Before the school year even ends, Albany coaches are making plans for the beginning of a new fall sports season.

Summer conditioning for all incoming seventh through 12th graders will begin Monday, June 13, and continue four days a week into July.

Summer workouts are regulated by UIL rules.

Moran ISD hosted an end-of-year banquet last week at the Moran gym.

On Tuesday, May 24, the school awards banquet recognized academic achievements from the school year and included a pair of special awards presented by the Moran Masonic Lodge.

During the event, the Moran Masonic Lodge presented a Community Builder award to Jacob Spencer in appreciation of his renovation work on the Moran gymnasium.

On Wednesday, May 25, the Moran FFA banquet celebrated the accomplishments of the FFA chapter in addition to installing officers for the 2022-23 school year.

Seniors Johnnie Hise and Hannah Rogers were recognized for achieving the Texas Lone Star FFA Degree, becoming the first Moran recipients since Danny Connally in 1955.
