The Agriculture Teachers Association of Texas presented awards to The Albany News and Albany resident Wesley Turner for the support of agriculture education at its conference, held Sunday-Friday, July 21-26 in Dallas. Albany agriculture teacher and FFA sponsor Chris Beard, who submitted nominations for both honors, accepted the awards on behalf of the recipients.

Lowe said she hopes to have online registration open late next week, with in-person registration available at the high school campus for all grades on Aug.

OJAC camps start Tuesday

The deadline to register for this year’s annual summer camps for kids at the Old Jail Art Center has officially passed, with all five events filled and staff members preparing for the first workshop next Tuesday. All the workshops are in person at the OJAC, held mostly in the Stasney Center.

Several Albany residents recently returned from a week-long mission trip to Belize. The group joined organizers Dee and Donnie Fitts of Seymour for their second trip to Bermudian Landing, a small rural village about 45 minutes from Belize City, according to local leader, Becky Wills.
