The city of Albany’s swimming pool at Webb Park will be open for one more week before closing for the season on Wednesday, July 31. The facility is open from 12:30 p.m.
Shackelford County commissioners voted to extend the county’s burn ban for 45 days at their Monday, July 22 meeting. Under the ban, open flames are not permitted in unincorporated areas of the county.
ResourceCare Summer Day Camp ends Friday after two weeks of fun in the sun, arts and crafts, and several other activities. Funds to come from AVFD dedicated account On a split roll call vote, the Albany city council opted to allow the Albany Volunteer Fire Department to use dedicated AVFD funds for a concrete pad on the north side of the station where the bays are located. Fire chief Joel Viertel presented two bids for the work, one from CM3 for $32,210 for a walkway and 8” concrete to the street’s edge and the second from Raydon for $53,050 for 6” concrete in the same area.
MembersoftheShackelford County hospital board met with the district’s legal counsel,JohnMontgomery, on Monday night, July 15 to go over the next steps in an ongoing problem of “non-district property on hospital premises,” as well as updates to the employee handbook and the district’s policies and guidelines.
ResourceCare’s annual day camp began Monday with 106 participants enjoying such activities as arts and crafts, swimming, dancing, sports, and VBS. “We’ve had a fabulous first week,” Ragan Riley, organizer said.
World War I vets Two stones added to the veterans monument on Shackelford CountyCourthouselawn were installed Tuesday, July 2 with more than 120 names already engraved. “We added one stone that onlyhadWorldWarIveterans,” organizer Mary Kay O’Connor said.
Moran FFA achieved a significant milepost at the 96th Texas FFA State Convention, receiving a Bronze National Chapter Award. Moran was one of only three Texas chapters to earn a national award, joining Abilene High and Killeen Harker Heights.
In May of 2024, Shackelford County’s Faith Fry was awarded the Arabian Horse Foundation Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $5,000. Fry is a home-schooled student who finished her high school certification this spring.
The deadline to register for this year’s summer workshops at the Old Jail Art Center has been pushed back to Sunday, July 21, according to the OJAC’s director of education Erin Whitmore, with the link closing at 6:00 p.m. that day.
