FiveAlbanyHighSchool seniors were awarded scholarships from Closet Angels last weekend in a brief announcement ceremony Sundayafterchurch at the ministry’s building. Chosen as recipients because of their service over the past few years were Shelby Honea, Emily Martin, Trinity McBee, Ashley Sanchez, and Austin Sanchez.

Day Camp registration now open

With the school year winding down, summer is about to kick off, and registration is now open for ResourceCare’s Day Camp 2024 set July 15-19 and 22-26. Programs assistant Ragan Riley noted that the event is two consecutive weeks rather than there being an open week in between like there was last year.

A whirlwind of activities is about to begin as members of the Albany High School Class of 2024 face a busy May schedule, ending with commencement exercises on May 24. Fandangle practice to start May 13

Rehearsals for the four summer performances of the Fort Griffin Fandangle will start on Monday, May 13 with a new practice schedule that should be easier on performers this season. According to Fandangle artistic director Lorna Ayers, the rehearsals will be different this year than in the past.

Johnnie Leon Barnett, 77, of Lueders was arrested on Monday, April 15 and charged with two counts of attempted capital murder, about three weeks after he allegedly tried to hit Shackelford County sheriff Ed Miller with his vehicle and then rammed a deputy’s vehicle.
