Pictures for varsity and JV football players have been set for this week, with volleyball teams and cheerleaders scheduled the day before on Thursday, Aug. 8.
The school year will start next week forAlbany ISD teachers and staff, with new staff members meetingonMonday,Aug.5 and all employees meeting on Tuesday. New staff members will meet on Monday at 9:00 a.m.
The annual member sign-upfortheAlbanyPTO is underway, with a new twist on paying membership dues. Parents, teachers, and community members can purchase one or more of 12 t-shirt designs ranging in price from $15 to $25 that includes the annual $5 membership dues.
The Albany Athletic Booster Club will conduct its first event of the 2024-25 schoolyearMonday,Aug.12 with theAnnual Ice Cream Supper at Bank Park. “We’re excited for this season to get started,” BoosterClubpresidentCari Heatly said.
A total of 74 girls from pre-school age to those entering sixth grade learned the basics of cheerleading and performed routines as part of the Cubs Cheer Camp. “It’s been close what we had last year,” Albany cheer sponsor Nickie Leveridge said.
Shackelford County resident Leia Rose placed second in the junior age group of the Texas 4-H State Indoor Archery Match conducted earlier this year, with Rose just recently learning of the results. In the indoor archery match, contestants competed in March and April at one of six locations around the state – Amarillo, Bay City, Carthage, Graham, Mercedes, and Monahans.
