Two teams of local FCCLAmemberswillleave Saturday for the National Leadership Conference in Seattle to compete in a pair of video contests. Only the top 15 entries among the online contests from across the nation are chosen to advance to the national competition.

Tuesday’s program was the final installment in the 2024 summer children’s hour at the Shackelford County Library. Local EMS employees JeffHillandKraymerHarbold led Tuesday’s event, teaching bike safety to preschool and elementary age children.

Special activities continue for 2nd Fandangle weekend

Visitors and locals alike will be able to enjoy a variety of activities offered in Albany this weekend prior to the final two performances of the Fort Griffin Fandangle. Free events will be offered on Friday and Saturday including a quilt show, tracker organ concert, calliope concert, viewing the PicketHouse,longhornson the courthouse square, exhibits and crafts kits at the Old Jail Art Center, plus several other activities.

16 local youth attend FCA camp

Albany sent 16 youth to the Big Country Fellowship of Christian Athletes Leadership Camp, held Monday-Friday, June 1721 at Hardin-Simmons University. Local FCA representative Paul Johnston said the camp drew about 350 attendees, 62 of them from Johnston’s area.

New monuments to be installed Tuesday

Two new stones being added to the veterans monuments on the Shackelford CountyCourthouseSquare are now complete and will be installed next Tuesday, July 2. Mary Kay O’Connor, who headed up the campaign to raise funding for the structures, is inviting the public to come watch the monuments being set into place.
