Albany’s Will LeMay won the Texas High School Rodeo Association trap shooting title for the second year in a row Saturday, June8aspartoftheTHSRA State Finals Rodeo being held in Abilene. LeMay,whojustfinished his junior year at Albany High School, busted 190 of 200 clay targets in two rounds of competition at Baird’s Callahan County Shooting Range.

The annual quilt show sponsored by the Albany Study Club is coming up soon. Quilts need to be taken to the Shackelford County Library so that they can be sorted and prepared for display at the Whitney Theatre during Fandangle, the last two weekends in June.

Local businesses and residentsareencouragedto joinwithpatriotsacrossthe United States this Friday, June 14 in the annual celebration of Flag Day. Individuals and business owners who have their own flags are asked to put them up for the day, except in case of inclement weather.

Albany water plant supervisor Michael Graham said this week that weather conditions have prevented city workers from spraying for mosquitoes so far this season. “Humidity and temperature levels must change before spraying begins,” Graham said.

Several volunteers showed up at the Depot last Saturday for the annual citywide cleanup day sponsored by the Albany Chamber of Commerce. Brandi Lehew, Chamber manager, said there were a few more helpers than last year, and they finished the work in record time.

This month’s Third Thursday at the Old Jail Art Center is set for next week on June 20, with participants creating and framing a trio of prints inspired by summer florals. Adult visitors are invited to register for the Botanical Gel Prints workshop, scheduled for 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Albany, Wisconsin set All local elementary age children and visitors are encouraged to attend next week’s story hour at theShackelfordCountyLibrary, whenlonghornsand Fandangle will be featured in a Zoom session with a sister library in Albany, Wisconsin. Janna Ledbetter, organizer of the children’s hour, said that the Wisconsin group is attempting to contact and conduct Zoom meetings with all the Albanys across the United States.

Albany’s Team Greaseworms recently completed the Nail Ranch Buffalo RunAdventureChallenge. Participating in the annual event for the fourth year, Greaseworms finished with no mechanical failures and had a fun and rewarding trip along the way.

A group of eight students and their sponsor will travel to Seattle in a couple of weeks for the FCCLA National Conference after qualifying to compete in a pair of video contests. Only the top 15 entries among the online contests are chosen to advance to the national competition from across the country.
