Fort Griffin State Historic Site kicks off its summer schedule Saturday, June 1 by featuring one of the site’s main attractions. The site will host Longhorn Intelligence – Campfire Stories and Cattle Handling Demonstration from 1:00-4:00 p.m.

Stock show assn. gives awards

Four members of the Albany High School Class of 2024 received scholarships from the Shackelford Youth and Livestock Association during commencement exercises Friday, May 24. Graduates Braylyn Abbate, Brooklyn Abbate, Cooper Edgar, and Kolt Koemel were presented $500 scholarships in recognition of their years of participation in the county stock show.

Commissioners approve purchase

Company misquotes case/ printer equipment At a brief meeting on Monday, May 28, the Shackelford County commissioners approved the purchase of seven iPads along with carrying cases and printers for the voter registration office. However, there was a question about the quote issued by Hart InterCivic for the case/printer combination, and the issue will probably be revisited at the next meeting.

Local participation needed for annual parade

Organizers of the annual Fort Griffin Fandangle parade have issued the call for entries for the event set to roll through downtown area on Saturday, June 22 at 5:00 p.m. Groups, families and individuals, as well as parade sponsors who help fund prizes and trophies, are urged to sign up by filling out an entry form online or in person at the Fandangle office located in the depot building.
