By Sandy Morris Regular travelers on Texas Hwy. 6 heading south of Albany toward the Shackelford-Eastland county line have noticed the beginning of road construction.

A Monday, Nov. 23 deadline has been set for the Nov. 26 edition of The Albany News due to the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday. All news articles and advertising must be received no later than noon on Monday, Nov. 23.

By Sandy Morris Republic Services, trash pickup contractor for the City of Albany, will run on a slightly different schedule for the week of Thanksgiving. Residential trash containers and business and industrial containers normally picked up on Thursday will change to Friday next week.

By Melinda L. Lucas Two incumbent board members, Myra Hise and Chris Beard, along with newcomer John Peterson, were sworn in for terms that will probably end up being about a year and a half because the usual May election was postponed until November due to COVID concerns.

By Sandy Morris Local 4-H and FFA members are in the middle of competitions and validations as they move closer to stock show season.  4-H Shooting Sports The Shackelford County 4 –H Club will be hosting a shooting sports meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 8 at 5:45 p.m. at the First Christian Church.

Photo packages of local flag football teams and individuals have been printed and are now available. Parents who paid in advance or who have valid accounts can pick up their packages at The Albany News office. Others can be ordered when they are paid. For more information, call 325-762-2201.

By Sandy Morris Albany school students will be dismissed early for the Thanksgiving holidays on Tuesday, Nov. 24 with a noon release time. On Tuesday, Nov. 24, all Nancy Smith Elementary School students will be dismissed at 12:00 noon.
