Local pecan entries due by Nov. 30

By Sandy Morris Shackelford County residents will be able to enter their prize pecans in the upcoming 2020 Abilene Area Pecan Show on Tuesday, Dec. 1. According to Shackelford County Extension Agent Kloey Painter, entries will be accepted starting Monday, Nov. 23 with a deadline of 4:00 p.m.

Albany to face Ralls today in area playoff

By Donnie A. Lucas After a three-week break, the Albany Lion football team will finally see action Thursday (today) in the Class 2A-Div 1 area playoff against the Ralls  Jackrabbits at Snyder. The second-round playoff bout will kick off at 7:00  p.m.with the Lions serving as the home team.

Jr. high teams win 3 of 4 games

By Donnie A. Lucas The Cubs and Lady Cubs won three out of four games during their opening set of games on Monday. The junior high girls won both bouts against the visiting Abilene Christian School teams, while the boys split games with ACS in Abilene.

Basketball starts with 53-18 win

By Donnie A. Lucas The Lady Lion basketball team hosted Rule on Monday in the home opener, picking up a 53-18 win. The varsity is scheduled to host the Abilene Lady Hawks on Saturday at 3:00 p.m.  The girls are also on the books to travel to Guthrie on Monday, Nov. 23 at 6:00 p.m.

Moran to dismiss for week

By Sandy Morris  The district-wide canned food drive competition sponsored by the Moran junior and senior classes is still going strong.  According to Moran ISD principal Jo Hise, the food drive has become very fierce.

Trip applications due Jan. 21

Big Country Electric Cooperative requests your help spreading word amongst local 10th, 11th and 12th grade students about the Government-in-Action Youth Tour, an all-expense-paid trip to the nation’s Capital.  Big Country EC will send three students on the 2021 Youth Tour, scheduled June 13-22.

Moran teams to face Woodson

By Sandy Morris Moran High School’s varsity girls basketball team traveled to Strawn on Friday, Nov. 13.  The Lady Bulldogs came up short, losing 67-17.  According to girls head coach John Hughes, the score isn’t a true reflection of the game.
