Chief appraiser resigns position

ClaytonSnyder,whohas served in the Shackelford County Appraisal District (SCAD) office for almost nine years, since August of 2015, submitted his resignation ataMay22meeting of the SCAD board. Snyder has accepted a position in Reeves County that board president Clint Bumguardnersaid“wastoo good for him to pass up.” At the same May 22 session, Richard Petree was hired to serve as interim chiefappraiser.Petree,who held the interim position before Snyder was certified, is the former Taylor Countychiefappraiserand now operates a consulting firm that provides similar services for other entities.

There were more than 175 separate awards for the class of 47, amounting to almost $200,000 given for just the first year of college or trade school – a record amount.

Shackelford County’s 150th anniversary committee unveiled a commemorative flag for the sesquicentennial celebration, along with announcing a fundraising campaign, plans for a 150 King and Queen, and the commissioning of a sculpture tomarkthemilestone. Moran ISD concluded its 2023-24 school year Friday, May 24 with graduation at Cisco College. TheRalphSnyderMemorial Scholarship ($1,000) was awarded to valedictorian Terra Thompson, with Neveah Huskey receiving the Maurice Snyder Memorial Scholarship ($750), Caleb York receiving the Sam Snyder Scholarship ($500),andZechHenderson receiving the Mary Anna Snyder Scholarship ($500).

Tax notices to be mailed

Notices of appraised value will be mailed at the end of this week or the beginning of next for the 2024 tax year, with overall property values continuing to rise. Property owners should receive their notices by mid-June, depending on mail service, and anyone who wishes to dispute the value of a property can file a protest by the June 30 deadline.
